WHY DO WE LIKE TO COLOR? by guest blogger Rhonda Otis

Ever wonder why we like to sit and color? It is not like it use to be when we were younger.  Coloring is more than just a hobby or a way to spend a Sunday afternoon, it can actually benefit your life in a variety of ways.

1. IT HELPS TAKE YOUR MIND OFF THINGS
Everyone has something major going on in their head and wish it would go away. Coloring will not make the problem go away, but it will relax you to not over-think or worry so much.

2. YOU CAN BE SOCIAL WHILE COLORING
You will meet new friends that colors with you. There are outside color groups that meets so many times a month and share their work with you. There is so many Facebook groups to join and be social. Even though everyone works on their own picture, everyone feels as if they are working together on a single larger project.

3. IT HELPS REDUCE YOUR STRESS
Coloring helps to let all your cares and worries drift away. Not only is it a great meditative activity that rest the mind while engaged with a picture, but it’s also been shown to reduce a person’s overall stress levels. It also reduces a person’s overreaction to a stressful situations in the future.

4. IT HELPS YOU FOCUS MORE
Coloring requires you to focus while coloring, therefore you are able to drift away. All outside factors goes away. It is a great way to escape the business of daily life, like ringing phones, blaring television sets, children running around and as said above thinking to much!

5. YOU WILL EXPRESS YOURSELF
Coloring is an individual activity, but it’s also a great way to express yourself. Whether you realize it or not, when you color, you create something that was not there before using the powers of your mind. Your creation is an extension of your mind and body. Your own style of art work. And that is AWESOME!

6. YOU WILL ENHANCED YOUR ABILITIES
When coloring you use your sense of sight in conjunction with your fine motor skills. It allows both hemispheres of your brain to communicate, making connections that strengthen a variety of abilities within your mind. It is a scientific fact that coloring may delay or prevent dementia.

7. IT WILL HELP YOU WITH YOUR SELF-ESTEEM
You created a beautiful artwork! It is worth noting that you did it! Be proud of yourself and give yourself credit for it. Frame it and hang it on the wall. Show other people what you have done. Give it away as gifts. I am sure they would be so proud of it. It will help you with self-esteem! Your work is incredibly UNIQUE!

I am sure there are many more reasons! Everyone is different. I have found it helps me in all these areas. I hope coloring has helped you in some ways as it has helped me!

HAPPY COLORING!
